Zomwave's Power Density Calculator is designed to give the power density, in Watts per square meter, at a given distance, output power and antenna gain. Please note that this calculator is only valid for far-field calculations.
As a leading manufacturer and supplier of RF, microwave and millimeter-wave products, many industries around the world rely on Zomwave, including avionics, military electronics, IFF, SATCOM, ECM, industrial/manufacturing and oil/gas.
Typically used in radar applications, power density is described by the non-directional power density multiplied by the gain of the radar. The distance D is an exponential component of the equation, due to its three-dimensional 'spreading' of the waveform as it propagates through space. Our antenna Power Density Calculator is a measurement tool specifically designed for far-field calculations and will give power density, in Watts per square meter, at a given distance, output power and antenna gain.
To calculate the power density of an antenna, one must measure the power/square cm, in space, from the center of the antenna. Space is represented as a sphere with a radius 'R' - the distance from the center of the antenna. Power density is defined as the product of an isotropic antenna's power density and its gain, usually calculated in mW/cm2.
In each of the Zomwave’s product-oriented calculators, including this power density calculator, you can plug in formula variables for desired calculations. The RF power density calculator will then highlight a 'Find Related Products' button And then you can then choose the products that meet your specification.
Our wide selection of RF, microwave and millimeter wave calculators is part of our technical resource library. The power density calculator for RF as with the other Zomwave conversions and calculators with formulas, complements the Engineers Resource Center section on the website.
